Financial empowerment is about control. BowWest's financial empowerment programs help people spend less, save more, and set goals for the future.

Money Management

BowWest offers workshops that help individuals and families learn how to get the most from each dollar. Community Advocates are also available for one-on-one support with specific financial issues including: debt reduction, savings, budgets and eligibility for financial support.

Dollars & Cents
Take one or ALL 5 of our Dollars & Cents workshops. The workshops are based on information developed by Momentum, an organization that helps Calgarians develop the financial skills they need to build the lives they want to lead.

Participants who complete all 5 workshops may be invited to join a matched savings program called Family Saves. Participants can save between $20-$50 a month.  At the end, savings will be matched 3:1.

Financial Coaching
This year's Dollars & Cents program includes a Financial Coaching session.

Free Tax Clinics

Volunteer tax preparers help you file your taxes. Once this is done, a BowWest Community Advocate will then help you learn how to access tax benefit programs. If you want to do more, the Community Advocate will also work with you to make a plan for how you can use your tax refund to build financial sustainability.

Education Savings

Ask one of our Community Advocates how to set up a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) for your children or grandchildren. A RESP helps you set aside money for your children's future education.  Each child registered with the program is eligible to receive up to $2,000 in free money from the federal government.
