BowWest Supports
BowWest works with its partners to find ways to support a wide variety of people who need a little extra help when times are tough. Examples of BowWest at work include:
- Helping a woman on AISH pay her damage deposit
- Working with one of our partners to make sure utilities are not cut off for new parents struggling with employment issues
- Helping a family get free furniture when they moved from a shelter to independent housing
- Outfitting a family with winter gear
- Connecting seniors to organizations that can help them deal with issues related to aging, including unexpected expenses.
BowWest Connects
BowWest makes it easier for people to know where to go for help. Our people also help individuals and families get the right help from the right people, at the right time and in the right place. BowWest:
- Helps low income households access the City of Calgary’s Fair Entry program to get low-cost rates to City services and progams
- Makes it easier for people to apply for Basic Needs Funds when they need help facing a financial crisis
- Helps support people to access provincial supports like Alberta Works, AISH and low income health benefits
- Links people to free and low-cost programs for clothing, furniture, toys, food, books and recreation
- Gives vulnerable families access to free toys at the Ranchlands office
BowWest Educates
BowWest helps people get the information they need to access educational programs that offer a more sustainable future for themselves and their families. BowWest:
- Offers parenting workshops and supports
- Connects people with special interest classes
- Knows where you can go to build ESL skills in your own community
- Lets caregivers know where they can go to access reading programs and free books for children
- Offers financial empowerment training designed to strengthen families
- Helps people access credit counselling and proven financial literacy programs that build financial stability
- Helps people access GED program for Alberta High School equivalency
